Like most companies, roofing companies have relied on happy customer referrals to grow their businesses. In today’s digital world, depending on referrals is simply not enough. People now have access to the Internet 24/7 and social media platforms to get all the information that they need to find a roofing company when they need one. 

I was talking to the owner of a roofing and restoration company and he provided me with the main reason why roofing businesses cannot rely on referral business like they did in the past. Do you know why? It’s because of the salespeople or “door knockers” that are out there canvassing entire neighborhoods selling roofs. These door knockers are reaching your prospects before they are able to get you the referral business that you got in the past. 

Most people don’t even know of a good roofing and siding company. This has nothing to do with the quality of any company’s service. It is simply because the average life of a roof is 20 years. Unless you have a tree come crashing through it or a very noticeable leak, home and business owners are not thinking about their roofs. 

But when they do need one, they are probably going to ask their friends or family members and then do a search online. So that’s where your efforts should be; advertising online. Working on your company’s digital footprint and advertising in the right channels gives your company the best opportunity to reach your future customers. As a business owner, your job is to find the best people with the knowledge and experience to get your business online and keep you there.
